~Next Young Leaders Gather in Akita to Shape the Future of Local Communities ~

July 1, 2025 – Tokyo, Japan

Akita International University

As part of its initiative to foster next-generation leaders under the age of 18, One Young World Japan, in collaboration with Akita International University (AIU), hosted Global Leadership Camp 2025 under the theme: “Exploring Regional Sustainability in a Shrinking Society.”

A total of 42 high school students from across Japan gathered at the AIU campus, where they participated in lectures by globally and locally active changemakers, as well as faculty members from AIU. These sessions helped deepen their understanding of global perspectives and local challenges.
Our program also included a fieldwork component in Gojome Town, Akita Prefecture, where students engaged directly with real-world issues facing the community. Working in groups, they developed concrete proposals for a sustainable regional future and delivered presentations in English on the final day.

Each participant took a meaningful step forward as a young leader, equipped with new insights and experiences.
